Helen A. Jensen Room: Western Colorado Collection

Jensen Room

About the Collection:

The Western Colorado Collection includes books, maps, and other materials pertaining primarily to Gunnison and the surrounding area. History, archeology, wildlife, geology, agriculture, mining, and politics are some of the areas covered in the collection. Materials in the collection date from the mid-1800’s through the present. Recent publications are added to the collection as funding permits.

Purpose:

The Western Colorado Collection was created to:

  • preserve and ensure continuing access to published and unpublished accounts of the history of the geographic area in which Western Colorado University is located
  • enhance the value of the library's collection to scholarship and the university curriculum

All materials are cataloged and can be identified through the library's online catalog. Materials may be borrowed by Western's faculty, staff, and students. We have copies of many of the items in our regular collection for our community members. Please ask at the desk.

Access:

The Jensen Room is located on the 3rd floor of the library and is open to the public.

About Helen A. Jensen:

Helen A. Jensen Bradford operated cattle and sheep ranches in the area of Meeker, Colorado. While enrolled as a Western State College student in the summer of 1976, she regularly used the library and envisioned a special area for the library’s Western Colorado Collection. She subsequently donated funds to help create a research center for Western Colorado materials.
