A service of the Colorado State Library, the Colorado Historic Newspapers Collection (CHNC) currently includes more than 2 million digitized pages, representing more than 600 individual newspaper titles published in Colorado primarily from 1859 to 2021.
Formerly known as the General Index, this Colorado/Western history resource indexes the Rocky Mountain News from 1865 to 1995 as well as other newspapers, journal and magazine articles, manuscript collections, and chapters from books in the Denver Public Library collections. This index was originally accessible only through print-format catalog cards in the Western History/Genealogy Department of the Denver Public Library. Each card has been digitized; results pull up images of the cards.
The Stephen H. Hart Research Center, located on the 2nd floor of the History Colorado Center, is free of charge and open to the public via an appointment system. Archives, photographs, and artifacts are available (some restrictions apply) for viewing and research in the Janis Falkenberg Reading Room. Virtual assistance is also an option.
Making of America (MOA) is a digital library of primary sources in American social history primarily from the antebellum period through reconstruction.
