Resources for editing and developing OER

One of the most appealing features of OER is the opportunity to customize content for courses and learning goals. Why adapt an OER?

Consider these possibilities:

Address a particular teaching style or learning style	Add material contributed by students or material suggested by students
Adjust for a different grade or course level	Translate the material into another language
Address diversity needs	Correct errors or inaccuracies
Meet a cultural, regional, or national preference	Update the book with current information
Make the material more accessible for people with disabilities	Add more media or links to other resources

Modifyng an Open Textbook: What you need to know
This is a five-step guide for faculty, and those who support faculty, who want to modify an open textbook. Step-by-step instructions for importing and editing common open textbook file and platform types are included.
Adaptation Guide
The Adaptation Guide is a practical reference about how to customize — or adapt — an open textbook so that it better fits your needs in the classroom and elsewhere. This guide defines the term adaptation and discusses reasons for revising a book, why this is possible with an open textbook, and the challenges involved.

OER Starter Kit (ebook)
This starter kit has been created to provide instructors with an introduction to the use and creation of open educational resources (OER). The text is broken into five sections: Getting Started, Copyright, Finding OER, Teaching with OER, and Creating OER. Although some chapters contain more advanced content, the starter kit is primarily intended for users who are entirely new to Open Education. [Version 1.1. Revised September 5th, 2019.]
OER Starter Kit Workbook
The OER Starter Kit Workbook is a remix of the OER Starter Kit to include worksheets to help instructors practice the skills they need to confidently find, use, or even create open educational resources (OER). We welcome instructors, librarians, instructional designers, administrators, and anyone else interested in OER to explore the OER Starter Kit Workbook.
Pressbooks - CDHE Application
CDHE and the OER Council are offering a state-wide Pressbooks network for any Colorado higher education institution, both public and private, to publish Open textbooks through the Pressbooks platform. Pressbooks is a publishing platform widely used by the open education community to adapt, create, and publish open educational resources. Individual authors and institutional projects interested in publishing on the Colorado Pressbooks Network should complete this application. The Colorado OER Council will review and award Pressbooks licenses on a rolling basis through 2024.

Jupyter Notebooks is an open-source web application that allows you to create and share documents that contain live code, equations, visualizations and narrative text. It supports over 40 programming languages, including Python, R, Julia, and Scala.
